Convert HEIC to JPG

HEICJPG Step 1 / 3
Drop your HEIC photos here HEIC or HEIF from your iPhone · as many as you like Choose photos

  • 100 % in the browser
  • No server uploads
  • Free forever

To convert HEIC to JPG, drop your iPhone photos into the box above, pick a quality and tap “Convert to JPG”. One photo downloads straight as a JPG, several come one by one or as a ZIP. Your photos are converted on your own device and never uploaded. Free, with no account and no limit.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Choose your photos

Drag your HEIC or HEIF files into the box above or tap “Choose photos”. Add as many as you like in one go.

  2. Pick a quality

“High” works for almost everything, including prints. “Medium” and “Small file” make lighter JPGs for email or upload forms with a size limit.

  3. Convert

Tap “Convert to JPG”. The first time, your browser loads the HEIC decoder once. After that, each photo takes a few seconds.

  4. Save

A single photo downloads straight as a JPG. With several, choose “ZIP” or “Separately”. Each JPG keeps the original name, so IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.jpg.

When do you need this?

Your Windows PC won't show the photo

You copied photos from your iPhone to a PC and Windows won't open them, or only with an extra extension. As JPGs they open in any image viewer.

An upload form rejects the file

Job portals, government sites, insurers and online shops often accept only JPG or PNG. Convert the photo and upload the JPG instead.

Sharing with Android or by email

Not every phone or email app previews HEIC. With JPG, everyone sees the picture right away without installing anything.

Photos for a website, print or photo book

Many site builders, print services and older programs don't know HEIC. JPG is the standard there and simply works.

HEIC vs. JPG: what's the difference?

HEIC (also called HEIF) is the photo format iPhones have used by default since iOS 11. It stores a photo at similar quality in a file roughly half the size of a JPG. The catch: not every device or website can open it.

JPG is the oldest and most widely supported photo format. Files are larger, but every phone, PC, browser and upload form opens them. HEIC is handy for storing photos on your iPhone. For sharing, JPG is the safe choice.

Good to know

  • Resolution stays the same: The JPG has exactly as many pixels as the original, for example 4032 × 3024 for a 12-megapixel photo. Nothing is cropped. Only on iPhone and iPad are shots above 16 megapixels brought down to 16 megapixels, because Safari can’t handle larger images there.
  • The JPG is larger than the HEIC: That’s normal, HEIC compresses more. If you need smaller files, pick “Medium” or “Small file”. On a phone screen you’ll hardly see the difference.
  • Location and date are removed: The JPGs contain no metadata such as GPS location, camera model or capture time. Handy when you share photos publicly. Gallery apps then usually sort them by the day you saved them.
  • Live Photos: For a Live Photo, the still image is converted. The short video clip is a separate file and stays untouched.

Tip: Want JPG straight away in future? On your iPhone, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos are then saved as JPG, but they take up more space.

Good to know: The first time you convert, your browser loads the HEIC decoder (about 1.5 MB) once from filemanta.com. Your photos don’t go anywhere. They are read on your device.

Other formats: Need a lossless image for editing? Use HEIC to PNG. Several photos as one document? HEIC to PDF makes a PDF straight away.

Troubleshooting

Why is my file rejected?

The tool accepts files ending in .heic or .heif. Check the extension: if it’s already .jpg, there’s nothing to convert. A .png or .webp file is a different format. A PNG goes through PNG to JPG instead.

One photo can't be read. What now?

Usually the file didn’t copy completely, for example because the transfer was interrupted. Copy the photo from your iPhone again and retry. The other photos are still converted.

The colors look slightly paler than on my iPhone. Why?

iPhones save photos in a wider color space (Display P3). JPG files are shown almost everywhere in the standard sRGB color space. Very strong reds and greens can look a touch more muted there. Everyday shots look the same.

Converting takes a long time. Is that normal?

With many photos or 48-megapixel shots, your device needs a while because each photo is decoded one by one. The loading spinner keeps turning until everything is done. Keep the tab open. On a phone, it helps to convert large batches in several rounds.

I can't find the JPGs on my iPhone. Where are they?

Safari saves downloads to the Files app in the Downloads folder, not straight to Photos. Open the image there, tap Share and then “Save Image” to add it to your photos.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. The file itself is never sent to a server, never stored and never seen by us. Close the tab and it is gone from memory.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools (F12), switch to the “Network” tab and start the conversion. Your file does not show up as an upload. What you may see are page resources and, if you agreed to them, ads or statistics.

FAQ

Is converting HEIC to JPG on Filemanta free?

Yes, completely. There's no daily limit, no cap on the number of photos, no watermark and no subscription. You don't need an account either.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photos are converted in your browser on your own device and never sent to a server. That matters for private pictures, ID photos or documents you've photographed.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Select as many photos as you like. You get them together as a ZIP or each one as its own JPG.

Do I lose quality when converting?

At “High” you won't see a difference. Resolution and framing stay the same. “Medium” and “Small file” compress more, which only shows when you zoom in a lot.

What's the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

HEIF is the name of the format, HEIC is the variant iPhones use. For you it makes no difference: the tool converts files with either extension to JPG.

Can I convert HEIC to JPEG as well?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format, only the file extension is spelled differently. This HEIC converter saves your photos as .jpg files, and every app that asks for a JPEG opens them.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on iPhone and Android in all current browsers. Pick photos from Files or your gallery, convert, save. No app needed.

How do I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows usually needs an extension from the Microsoft Store for that. It's simpler to convert the photos to JPG here. Windows opens JPGs in the Photos app without any extra software.

Can I combine the JPGs into a PDF afterwards?

Yes, but you don't even need the detour: the Filemanta HEIC to PDF tool turns your iPhone photos straight into one PDF, in any order. If you already have JPGs, use JPG to PDF. Both work with no server upload.
