  • Free forever

To convert HEIC to PNG, drop your iPhone photos into the box above and tap “Convert to PNG”. Each photo is saved as a lossless PNG at full resolution, and several come one by one or as a ZIP. The conversion runs on your own device, with no server upload. Free, with no account and no limit.

How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Choose your photos

Drag your HEIC or HEIF files into the box above or tap “Choose photos”. Add as many as you like in one go.

  2. Pick a file size

“Original” keeps every pixel. “Smaller” scales the long side down to 2,400 pixels. That's enough for screens, email and A4 prints, and makes the PNGs much lighter.

  3. Convert

Tap “Convert to PNG”. The first time, your browser loads the HEIC decoder once. After that, each photo takes a few seconds.

  4. Save

A single photo downloads straight as a PNG. With several, choose “ZIP” or “Separately” under Download. Each PNG keeps the original name, so IMG_1234.HEIC becomes IMG_1234.png.

When do you need this?

Editing your photos

You want to crop, annotate or retouch an iPhone photo. As a PNG it loses no quality when you save it again, unlike a JPG, which gets a little worse every time.

A program or website only takes PNG

Some graphics programs, slide decks, site builders and upload forms don't know HEIC or ask for PNG specifically. Convert the photo and upload the PNG.

Images for design and presentations

Product shots, portraits or pictures for flyers and slides: PNG keeps fine edges and text sharp and is standard in Office, Canva and Figma.

Keeping photos without further loss

You want to store an important photo as an open file every device can read. PNG saves exactly what the HEIC decoder delivers, with no extra compression.

PNG or JPG: which format for your iPhone photos?

HEIC is the iPhone’s photo format. It saves space, but many programs and websites can’t open it. To share your photos you usually need PNG or JPG.

PNG is lossless: what you convert stays pixel for pixel the same, even when you save it again. The trade-off is large files. JPG compresses with some loss and is much smaller. PNG suits editing and graphics. For sharing and uploading photos, HEIC to JPG is usually the better fit.

Good to know

  • Resolution stays the same: With “Original”, the PNG has exactly as many pixels as the photo, for example 4032 × 3024 for 12 megapixels. Nothing is cropped. Only on iPhone and iPad are shots above 16 megapixels brought down to 16 megapixels, because Safari can’t handle larger images there.
  • PNG is much larger than HEIC: That’s normal. HEIC and JPG throw away details you can hardly see, PNG keeps everything. A 12-megapixel photo can easily be 15 MB or more as a PNG. If you need smaller files, choose “Smaller”.
  • Transparency is kept: If the HEIC file has see-through areas, the PNG keeps them. Normal camera photos have none, so nothing changes there. The tool doesn’t remove backgrounds.
  • Location and date are removed: The PNGs contain no metadata such as GPS location, camera model or capture time. Handy when you share photos publicly.

Tip: Just want to send or upload the photos? HEIC to JPG is usually better: the files are much smaller and look the same. Several photos as one document? That’s what HEIC to PDF is for.

Good to know: The first time you convert, your browser loads the HEIC decoder (about 1.5 MB) once from filemanta.com. Your photos don’t go anywhere. They are read on your device.

Troubleshooting

Why is my file rejected?

The tool accepts files ending in .heic or .heif. If it’s already .png, there’s nothing to convert. A JPG becomes a PNG with JPG to PNG. By the way, iPhone screenshots are already PNG, only camera photos are HEIC.

One photo can't be read. What now?

Usually the file didn’t copy completely. Copy the photo from your iPhone again and retry. The other photos are still converted.

The PNG is too large for a form. What can I do?

Choose “Smaller” under File size and convert again. If that’s still too big, use HEIC to JPG with “Small file” quality, which gives the smallest files.

The colors look slightly paler than on my iPhone. Why?

iPhones save photos in a wider color space (Display P3). The PNG is saved in the standard sRGB color space that almost every program expects. Very strong reds and greens can look a touch more muted there.

Converting takes a long time. Is that normal?

Saving PNGs losslessly takes some computing, so many photos or 48-megapixel shots need a while. The loading spinner keeps turning until everything is done. Keep the tab open, and on a phone convert large batches in several rounds.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. The file itself is never sent to a server, never stored and never seen by us. Close the tab and it is gone from memory.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools (F12), switch to the “Network” tab and start the conversion. Your file does not show up as an upload. What you may see are page resources and, if you agreed to them, ads or statistics.

FAQ

Is converting HEIC to PNG on Filemanta free?

Yes, completely. There's no daily limit, no cap on the number of photos, no watermark and no subscription. You don't need an account either.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photos are converted in your browser on your own device and never sent to a server. That matters for private pictures and photographed documents.

Do I lose quality converting to PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so the image looks exactly like the HEIC photo. It doesn't get better than the original, though: PNG only stops further quality loss.

Is PNG better than JPG for photos?

For image quality yes, for file size no. PNG is ideal for editing and graphics. For sharing and uploading photos, JPG is usually more practical because the files are much smaller.

Can I convert several HEIC files to PNG at once?

Yes. Select as many photos as you like. You get them together as a ZIP or each one as its own PNG.

Will my photo get a transparent background?

No. PNG can store transparency, but the tool only keeps what is already see-through in the photo. A normal camera photo stays complete, background included.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on iPhone and Android in all current browsers. Pick photos from Files or your gallery, convert, save. No app needed.

What's the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

HEIF is the name of the format, HEIC is the variant iPhones use. For you it makes no difference: the tool converts files with either extension to PNG.
