Merge PDF Files
- 100 % in the browser
- No server uploads
- Free forever
To merge PDF files, drop two or more PDFs into the box above. Put them in the right order with the arrows or by dragging, then tap “Merge PDFs”. You get one PDF with all pages. The files are not uploaded; they are combined on your own device. Free and without an account.
How to merge PDF files
Choose your PDFs
Drag your PDF files into the box above or tap “Choose PDFs”. You can select several at once and add more later with “Add more files”.
Set the order
Each file shows up as a row with a preview of its first page and its page count. Move it with the arrows, or drag it into place on a computer. The file at the top comes first in the PDF.
Merge the files
Tap “Merge PDFs”. Your device copies all pages into a new PDF, usually within a few seconds.
Download the PDF
Tap “Download PDF”. The file is called “pdf-merged.pdf” and lands in your Downloads folder.
When do you need this?
A job application in one file
Cover letter, résumé and certificates as a single PDF: many application portals accept only one file, and recruiters would rather open one document than five.
Receipts for taxes and expenses
Collect invoices, receipts and bank statements for your tax return, an expense report or an insurance claim in one PDF and submit them in one go.
Documents for a landlord or an office
Combine pay slips, an ID copy and references for a rental application or an official form. With papers like these it matters that nothing ends up on someone else’s server.
Put scanned pages back together
Your scanner saved every page as its own PDF? Merge them back into one document in the right order.
Merging PDFs: built-in tools or Filemanta?
Not every device can combine PDF files on its own. On a Mac you can use the Preview app, on an iPhone the Files app. Windows and most Android phones have no built-in tool for it, and the free Adobe Acrobat Reader only merges with a paid subscription.
Filemanta works in any current browser on any device. Pages are copied unchanged: text stays selectable, images keep their quality.
| Feature | Built-in tools | Filemanta |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | No built-in tool | In the browser, nothing to install |
| Mac | Preview app, drag pages into the sidebar | Drop the files in, done |
| iPhone and iPad | Files app: select several, “Create PDF”; little control over the order | Set any order with the arrows |
| Android | Usually no built-in feature | Works in Chrome and every current browser |
| Adobe Acrobat Reader | Merging only with a subscription | Free, no limits |
| Text and quality | Kept | Kept, pages are copied 1:1 |
Good to know
- Pages stay unchanged: Pages are copied 1:1, not reprinted and not turned into images. Text stays selectable and searchable. The merged PDF is about as large as all files together.
- Mixed page sizes: A4, Letter, portrait and landscape can be mixed. Every page keeps its size and orientation.
- Photos instead of PDFs: This tool takes PDFs only. Turn photos and images into a PDF with Image to PDF first, then merge it here with your other files.
- What doesn’t carry over: The table of contents in the sidebar (bookmarks) is not kept. Fillable form fields become fixed text with their content. A digital signature is no longer valid once a PDF has been changed.
Tip: On an iPhone you can pick several PDFs at once: in the file picker, tap “Select” at the top, then tap each file.
Note: Protected PDFs (with a password or an editing lock) can’t be merged. Open the file in a PDF app and save a copy as PDF via “Print”. You can then use that copy here.
Troubleshooting
Why is a PDF rejected as “protected”?
The PDF is encrypted, either with a password to open it or with a lock that forbids changes. The browser can’t rebuild files like these. Open the PDF in a PDF app, enter the password if asked, and save an unprotected copy via “Print” → “Save as PDF”.
A PDF won’t open. What can I do?
The file is damaged or not a real PDF, for example a renamed image or an incomplete download. Download it again or ask for it to be sent again. If it is an image, convert it with Image to PDF.
The merged PDF is too large for email or an upload portal.
Merging doesn’t shrink anything; the size is roughly the sum of all files. Large chunks are usually scanned pages. If you can, scan them again at a lower resolution, or split the documents across two emails.
The order is wrong. Do I have to start over?
No. Tap “Edit” to go back to the list; all your files are still there. Change the order and tap “Merge PDFs” again.
I can’t find the PDF on my iPhone. Where is it?
Safari saves downloads in the Files app, in the “Downloads” folder. From there you can send the PDF by email or messenger via “Share”.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Merging runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, never stored and never seen by us. Close the tab and they are gone from memory.
You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools (F12), switch to the “Network” tab and start merging. Your files do not show up as an upload. What you may see are page resources and, if you agreed to them, ads or statistics.
FAQ
Is merging PDFs on Filemanta free?
Yes, completely. There is no limit on files or pages, no watermark, no subscription and no account. Merge as often as you like.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your PDFs are read and merged in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to a server. That matters for contracts, bank statements or job applications.
How do I combine PDF files into one?
Select all PDFs at once, put them in the right order with the arrows and tap “Merge PDFs”. The result is a single PDF file with all pages one after another.
How many PDFs can I merge?
There is no fixed limit, only your device’s memory. Even hundreds of pages are usually done in a few seconds. Very large files of several hundred megabytes take longer, more so on a phone than on a computer.
Is the quality preserved?
Yes. Pages are copied unchanged; nothing is recompressed or turned into images. Text stays selectable and searchable.
Can I merge PDFs on my phone?
Yes, on iPhone and Android in the browser, without an app. Pick the PDFs from Files or your Downloads folder, set the order and download the merged PDF.
How do I merge PDFs on a Mac without extra software?
Open the first PDF in Preview, show the thumbnails via “View”, drag the second PDF into the sidebar and save. Filemanta does it without these steps and works on Windows PCs too.
Can I remove or reorder single pages?
Here you set the order of the files. All pages of each file go into the result in full, in their original order.
